Congressman Lynn Westmoreland to Provide Opening Remarks at Jump Start 2014

Atlanta, Ga. – January 7, 2014 – SMC³ announced today that U.S. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland [R-GA, Third Congressional District] will provide the opening remarks on January 21 for Jump Start 2014 (7:50 am, The Loews Atlanta Hotel).

“We are extremely honored to have Congressman Lynn Westmoreland accept a key role at Jump Start 2014 and to address more than 300 senior transportation professionals responsible for moving American commerce,” said Jack E. Middleton, SMC³ president and CEO. “Congressman Westmoreland’s tireless efforts on the Hill on behalf of U.S. transportation are well documented. His exemplary service as a former member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, together with his leadership, places him in a unique position to continue to serve as a strong national advocate for our industry.”

“America’s infrastructure is today at a critical crossroads. Despite its importance to the economy, our national road, harbor, air and rail infrastructure have lingered for far too long without a viable plan to position American transportation for long-term success”, said Congressman Westmoreland. “I have a great passion for improving American infrastructure. Georgians have worked extremely hard to grow roadway infrastructure to support Atlanta as the transportation hub of the South and to deepen the Port of Savannah’s harbor in preparation for the next generation of vessels soon scheduled to call East Coast ports via both canals. We’ve been equally supportive of critical infrastructure improvements across the U.S. that has such a strategic impact on fostering trade and driving economic growth. I look forward to Jump Start 2014.” said Congressman Westmoreland.

Having served five terms, Congressman Westmoreland represents Georgia’s Third Congressional District, which stretches from the Southern suburbs of metro Atlanta into Middle Georgia and south to Columbus. In addition to welcome remarks, Congressman Westmoreland will introduce keynote speaker Marianela Dengo, the Panama Canal Authority, for an update on Canal expansion and the impact on U.S. East and Gulf Coast ports.
